Between Dakhla, in southern Morocco, and Safaga, on the Red Sea in Egypt, the dilemma is common. Both spots work year-round, both are reliable, and both are benchmark destinations for kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and, on the Safaga side, windsurfing.

But once you’re on the water, the feeling is not the same. And depending on your level, your goals, and even your personality, one destination may suit you far better than the other.

WATER CONDITIONS: EVOLVING LAGOON OR PERMANENT FLAT WATER?

This is where the difference becomes very concrete.

DAKHLA: A LAGOON THAT CHANGES WITH THE TIDE

The lagoon of Dakhla is vast, open, and constantly changing. Depending on the tide, you will find very flat zones or more chop, from mirror-flat water to bumpier sections. This variety forces you to adapt, read the water, and adjust your lines.

For wingfoil and kitesurfing, you have a huge playground with plenty of space to ride without pressure. Our two spots, Oasis212 and White Dune Canyon, allow you to ride away from the crowds.

Another major advantage: there is also a wave spot accessible depending on the conditions. If you want to mix things up and add a surf dimension to your trip, Dakhla Lassarga offers exactly that.

TEMPERATURE: A DETAIL THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

In Safaga, both the air and the water are generally warmer. The Red Sea keeps pleasant temperatures throughout the year. For riders who are sensitive to the cold or who want long sessions without wearing a thick wetsuit, this is a clear advantage.

In Dakhla, the climate stays mild year-round, but it is slightly cooler, especially outside the summer season. You can still ride in very good conditions, but usually with a 4/3 or 3/2 wetsuit.

If thermal comfort is a priority for you, Safaga can make all the difference.

WHICH SPOT FOR WHICH DISCIPLINE?

Dakhla has historically been strongly focused on kitesurfing and wingfoiling. The overall vibe of the spot, the power of the wind, and the lagoon setup naturally attract kiters. It is a perfect destination for learning. Wingfoil also enjoys excellent conditions there thanks to the large riding area and reliable wind, especially at our Oasis212 spot.

Safaga, on the other hand, is more balanced across disciplines. Windsurfing feels especially at home there thanks to the flat water and steady wind. Wingfoil progresses quickly in this clean and stable environment. Kitesurfing is also very comfortable.

If you are traveling with a group of mixed profiles (a windsurfer, a wingfoiler, and a kiter), Safaga offers greater versatility, especially for windsurfers.

To make your decision easier, ask yourself these questions:

• Are you looking for strong side-shore wind, lagoons, safe conditions, and a true watersports atmosphere?
• Do you want to add wave sessions to your trip?
