Egypt Red Sea » General Info

Since the political change in January 2011, Egyptian tourism has experienced a roller coaster of emotions, but it still makes an important contribution to the well being of the Egyptian economy. Whilst the Nile cruise ships and many cultural sites have seen a real decline in bookings, the resorts on the Red Sea are still relatively well attended. Unimpressed by the political development of the country of pyramids and pharaohs, many kitesurfers and windsurfers still chose to holiday there. They appreciate the everlasting constants of the country: the steady wind, the wonderful turquoise sea, the variety of hotels, and last but not least hospitable people.

Located about 50 kilometers south of Hurghada, this site offers numerous diving bases as well as probably one of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in Egypt. The contrast between the blue and turquoise colors of the ocean and the barren mountains behind transformed the area around Safaga in a fantastic setting, and will turn your vacation into a wind filled desert experience.

Since 1991, the ION CLUB at Shams Hotel has been one of the top addresses amongst the windsurf centers in Egypt. In the year 2003 we added our ION CLUB Kitesurf Center to the grounds of the Shams Prestige Hotel. A highlight for all windsurfers and kitesurfers are organized surf trips to the island paradise "Toubia Island" a small offshore sand island.

Tourism in the southern Sinai has suffered the most from political instability in recent years. Travel restrictions have been lifted omr the beginning of of 2015. It was about time that such an excellent windsurfing spot like Dahab was available again. The former charm and great atmosphere may have perhaps been lost for the moment – but the conditions are the same. The former showcase spot for windsurfers in Egypt will hopefully soon find its´ way back to "the good old times".

The ION CLUB Center at the Dahab Resort is located in the lagoon of Dahab Bay and the Kitesurf Center is located about 4 km north of Dahab.
