When we were still known as Club Mistral, ION CLUB was one of the first to explore the magnificent island of Cape Verde, following in the footsteps of 2 French men, François Guy and Patrick Heintz. Driven by the trade winds from the Canaries, after spending the summer there, we landed on the island of Sal. Throughout the winter these same trade winds settled on Sal, much to our delight.

That was back in 1989 when there were just two hotels on the beach, the Mozabeza and the Belhorizonte. Very quickly we all formed strong bonds, driven by our love of the island, the local culture, the people and the landscapes.

Our very first Club Mistral was built on the beach, just opposite the Morabeza hotel. At that time our customers would come and go between the hotel and the club, depending on the daily wind forecast. Then we opened the Ponta Leme center a little further east, to get closer to the point and to the waves.

35 years later, the village of Santa Maria has evolved considerably. Our centers have expanded, as has the Morabeza hotel. We continue to welcome customers from all over the world.

ION CLUB and Sal, like Morabeza and Sal, represent a great love story, and one of the best playgrounds for our favourite board sports.

MORABEZA HOTEL CAPE VERDE – A TRADITION OF HOSPITALITY

Hotel Morabeza is a 4* hotel located in front of the beautiful sandy beach of Santa Maria, and a 5 minute walk from the ION CLUB Santa Maria center.

This hotel is one of the oldest and most authentic in the area. Founded in 1967 by a Belgian couple, it has always been maintained by members of the family.  

The atmosphere at the hotel is very pleasant with hospitality at the heart of their expertise. The spacious and floral outdoor spaces are organised around the various rooms and the 3 outdoor swimming pools. The hotel offers many services such as tennis courts, miniature golf, a gym and petanque. Several times a week it welcomes local musicians to liven up the evenings.  

What we find particularly enchanting about the Morabeza hotel is the feeling of well-being, almost as if you were at home. It’s easy to get to the beach to soak up the sun, easy to get to the center as soon as the wind conditions are right, and easy to explore the charming village as you stroll through the streets of Santa Maria. If you have a car, you can also move around the island as you please, whether it’s to enjoy a drink at sunset, chat with the locals or sample the island’s specialities.

The Morabeza hotel has several restaurants and bars. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. From lunch at the Beach Club to dinner under the palm trees, lulled by the rhythm of the local music, we love spending these moments at the Morabeza.   

The Beach Club : located on the seafront, there is a light and diverse gastronomic selection, featuring Mediterranean flavours with fresh fish, seafood and delicious barbecued dishes. It’s the perfect place to admire the ocean in complete tranquillity. | Open every day from 12.30 to 15.00

Les Palmiers: On the esplanade lined with century-old trees, the Les Palmiers restaurant offers an exceptional setting for your dinner. The cuisine is excellent. For those who have booked half-board, a different menu is offered each evening. For others, the service is à la carte.  

Get ready … every Saturday is Cape Verdean evening! On the programme; a buffet of local specialities, the live band OviCreol, traditional dancing and a complimentary caipirinha to get you in the mood!  | Open every evening from 7pm to 10pm. 

The Turtle : Located on the roof top floor, the Tortue Bar and Restaurant welcomes you in the evening from 6pm to midnight, with musical events and themed evenings to get together for a drink!  In the restaurant you will find exotic dishes that will take you on a journey around the world. |Open from 7pm to 10pm (à la carte service) except Saturdays.
