Organized by the GKA, the Ocean Roots camp in Mauritius brought together local children, kite culture, and respect for the ocean, with the support of ION CLUB Mauritius.
WHEN KITESURFING BECOMES A TOOL FOR PASSING THINGS ON
Ocean Roots was created with a simple mission: introduce more young people to kitesurfing and inspire the next generation of ocean minded athletes. At the beginning of January, the lagoon of Le Morne in Mauritius hosted this project. Imagined and organized by the Global Kitesports Association, the camp aimed to offer much more than time on the water: to create an educational, human experience focused on the future of kitesurfing.
To support this initiative, the GKA relied on the local expertise of ION CLUB Le Morne, project partner and on site coaching center.
OCEAN ROOTS: LEARNING KITESURFING IN A DIFFERENT WAY
Ocean Roots is first and foremost aimed at young people. Over several days, participants discovered or deepened their kitesurfing skills in a safe environment, coached by the instructors of ION CLUB Mauritius.
The teaching approach is intentionally progressive: small groups, individual attention, and understanding the wind and the spot before focusing on performance. Here, kitesurfing is used as a way to build confidence and independence, in an accessible and inclusive spirit.
THE ROLE OF ION CLUB MAURITIUS ON SITE
As the host center, ION CLUB Mauritius provided the welcome, sports coaching, and technical guidance throughout the camp. Thanks to its deep knowledge of the Le Morne spot and its experience in teaching watersports, the club allowed young riders to progress in optimal conditions.
This collaboration with the Global Kitesports Association highlights ION CLUB’s commitment to sharing kiteboarding with high standards, strong pedagogy, and respect for the environment, while adapting to the needs of every rider.
AN ESSENTIAL CONNECTION WITH THE OCEAN
Ocean Roots is not only about riding. The program also includes awareness of the marine environment with Scuba Caribe. Coastal exploration, observation of local wildlife, and discussions about ecosystems helped participants better understand the environment they ride in.
In Mauritius, the ocean is part of everyday life. Learning to ride also means learning to respect this unique environment, a value fully shared by the Global Kitesports Association and ION CLUB.
TRAIN TODAY, INSPIRE TOMORROW
Through Ocean Roots, the Global Kitesports Association is laying the foundations for a project focused on the future of kitesurfing: more accessible, more aware, and more connected to the ocean.
For ION CLUB Mauritius, hosting this camp was an opportunity to highlight its role in passing on kitesurfing and its commitment to new generations. A collaboration that truly makes sense and fits into a sustainable vision of watersports.
