KITESURFING: WHEN AND WHERE TO GO, MONTH BY MONTH
Kitesurfing has one big advantage: there’s always wind somewhere. The real question isn’t whether you can ride at a certain time of year, but where to go for the best conditions when you travel. An amazing spot at the wrong time of year can stay windless for a week, while the right destination can give you sessions every day, weather permitting of course.
This guide takes you month by month through the destinations where our centres and partner spots offer the most reliable conditions. It will help you plan your trip around the right season, whether you’re chasing winter sun, looking for flat water in spring, or hoping for waves and unforgettable summer sessions.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TIME TO GO KITESURFING
The best time to go depends on three key things: how reliable the wind is during your travel dates, the air and water temperature, and the type of spot that matches your goals. Beginners usually do best with shallow water and steady wind, while more experienced riders might be looking for stronger wind or waves.
Start with what you want from your trip, check the best season for it, then choose a spot that’s in its prime at that exact time of year. That’s the whole idea behind this calendar.
It’s also important to think in terms of wind statistics. No spot can guarantee wind every day, but some destinations have much higher success rates during certain periods. That’s what we focus on here, rather than risky spots where the wind is too unpredictable.
WHICH KITESURFING DESTINATION IN WINTER, FROM DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY?
Winter in the Northern Hemisphere is prime time for warm, faraway kite destinations. Several spots hit their best season, with reliable wind, plenty of sun, and great conditions on the water.
Sal and Boa Vista in Cape Verde are at their peak, with steady wind, warm water, and a relaxed vibe, making them a solid choice for end-of-year holidays or a February escape.
Dakhla, in southern Morocco, stays windy and sunny, with its huge flat-water lagoon made for long sessions. You can choose between Dakhla White Dune Canyon, Oasis212, or Dakhla Lassarga. On the Red Sea, Dahab and Safaga also keep delivering reliable wind and pleasant water temperatures throughout the season.
Further away, Zanzibar enters one of its best wind periods, while the Caribbean is perfect for a kite cruise, with boat-only spots to discover along the way.
WHERE TO GO KITESURFING IN SPRING AND AUTUMN?
Spring and autumn are two of the best seasons to go kitesurfing. The conditions are great, the spots are quieter than in peak summer, and many destinations are right in their best wind window.
It is the ideal time for Tarifa, with its Levante and Poniente wind days and fewer people on the water. Golf de Roses, in Catalonia, benefits from the Tramontana wind. Dakhla and the Red Sea, with Safaga and Dahab, remain excellent. In Mauritius, Le Morne starts its wind and wave season. In the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura offers windy days one after another, while in Morocco, Essaouira combines strong winds with a vibrant cultural city.
WHERE TO GO KITESURFING IN SUMMER, FROM JUNE TO SEPTEMBER?
Summer is all about the Mediterranean and thermal winds. You don’t need to travel far: the Med delivers warm, reliable conditions and easy-access kite spots.
Sicily joins the list of windy Mediterranean spots. Tarifa, Golf de Roses, Fuerteventura, Le Morne, the Red Sea with Safaga and Dahab, as well as Essaouira and Dakhla with Oasis212, White Dune Canyon or Lassarga, all remain in an excellent wind window. At the end of summer, Zanzibar also comes back into the selection.
If you want a kite trip without going too far, the Mediterranean and its thermal winds are your best bet: warm wind, long days, and spots you can reach from Europe in just a few hours by plane.

WHICH KITESURF SPOT SHOULD YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR LEVEL?
Beyond the season, there’s one common idea worth clearing up: some spots are for beginners, others are for experts. That’s not really true. Each of our spots offers conditions for different levels, as long as you ride in the right area.
Le Morne in Mauritius is the perfect example. Its shallow turquoise lagoon is ideal for learning with confidence or having fun with freestyle on flat water, while the waves breaking on the reef are perfect for experienced riders looking to surf. From your first runs to wave riding, you can do it all in the same place.
At each spot, our teams will guide you towards the area that suits your level and the conditions on the day. Wherever you go, you’ll find the right setup to start safely or push your limits.
