Turkey is a popular destination, and not only for all inclusive tourists. Well known tourist destinations such as Antalya on the Turkish Riviera do not accurately reflect the full range of tourism available in Turkey.
Teos is one of 12 ancient Ionian towns to the south of Sigacik, a modern city located in the province of Seferihisar. In December 2009, the city Seferihisar became the first Turkish member of the Cittaslow organization, underlining the intention for promoting sustainable tourism in this region. Cittaslow is an organisation, founded in Italy, which was inspired by the slow food movement, itself part of a wider cultural trend. Cittaslow's goals include improving the quality of life in a town by slowing down its overall pace, especially in its use of spaces, and in the flow of life and business (wikipedia). The seven main points a member needs to follow are the environment, politics, infrastructure, urban development, the promotion of local products, hospitality, general understanding and the importance of the landscape. These also cover a wider support of cultural diversity and the specific values of the town and its surroundings.
In Sigacik you can visit the old castle and each Sunday a market is held where you can sample local homemade food or buy handmade jewellery and other handicrafts.
Further, you can discover lovingly restored houses in the ancient streets. From high in the castle you will get an amazing view over the old harbour, where you will find many nice bars and excellent fish restaurants. For boat fans there is new marina and for those of you who have an interest in archeological sites, you can visit the Dyonisus temple or the Odeion theatre. In 2012 an ancient cistern was also unearthed.
